CORTLANDT - Firefighters from Mohegan Lake, Peekskill and Buchanan worked quickly today to douse a fire that apparently started from a plumber's soldering torch.
About 65 firefighters from the three departments responded around 12:15 p.m. to a spacious home at 545 Westbrook Drive after the fire was reported in an upstairs bathroom.

Lake Mohegan Assistant Fire Chief Joe Mayer credited the efforts of firefighters, who pulled down the bathroom ceiling and doused the fire before it got into the attic.
"Another 10 minutes or so and we would have had an all-hands situation," Mayer said.
Instead, firefighters limited the fire damage to the second-floor bathroom and negated the need to cut a hole through the roof.
The fire caused smoke damage throughout the two-story, six-bedroom, three-car garage house, but Mayer said the family that lives there - a mother, father and three children - would be able to remain.
Mayer said a plumber's soldering torch appeared to have started the fire.
Firefighters from Croton-on-Hudson and Mahopac Falls assisted by standing by in Lake Mohegan's firehouse during the blaze.
